Itinerary:

DAY 1: 

You leave at 8:00 a.m. from your hotel in Quito towards Chimborazo mountain, which is the highest volcano in Ecuador (6.310 m - 20,702 ft) and the farthest point from the centre of the Earth, it means, that it is the closest point on Earth to outer space; this is the reason why it is called “the closest point to the Sun”, because the Earth’s diameter at the equator latitude is wider and greater than the latitude of Mount Everest (about 28° north). The last known eruption is believed to have occurred around 550 A.C. It is located in the central Andes of Ecuador, just 150 kilometers southwest of Quito. In this magical mountain Alexander Von Humboldt made significant annotations that have contributed to the study of the geology of the planet! From the city of Ambato, you start going up to “El Arenal” (4.200 m - 13,779 ft), where you can see already the three types of south American camels that Ecuador has, living between inhospitable landscapes and indigenous communities! You can go higher up to 16,404 feet above sea level, to appreciate the majesty of glaciers! Around 5:00 p.m. you will arrive to Riobamba, and you will stay the overnight at Hacienda Abraspungo. If the weather permits, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a spectacular view of the Tungurahua (5.000 m - 16,404 ft) and Altar volcanoes (5.319 m - 17,450 ft).

DAY 2: 

At 6:00 a.m. you start your journey towards Alausí Train Station, which is located at 2.346 meters above sea level (7,696 ft). From there you will take the fabulous train ride at 8:00 a.m. to go through the unique railway, which was considered the most difficult one to build in the early years of the twentieth century, towards the famous “Devil’s Nose”, where a majestic piece of engineering is worldwide appreciated!! Descending from a particular zigzag railway towards the forgotten Sibambe community that is at 1.900 meters (6,233 ft), where we can photograph the mountain formerly known as “Condor Puñay”. You begin your return to Quito, but not before visiting the charming Guamote Indian Market (Thursday), where you can clearly learn more about the Puruhá culture! You will be back in Quito approximately at 6:30 p.m. End of this fantastic adventure in the Andes of Ecuador!!

Therefore, EBT deeply recommends a private travel insurance. - EBT reserves the right to cancel or suspend tours depending on weather conditions, natural disasters, government regulations, suspicious diseases, etc. Always regarding for the safety of the passengers. - Under no circumstances, EBT will refund any money on the same day that the tour takes place. - Cancellations must be done 5 days previous departure day. - Flights cancellations, or last minute flight changes are totally out of control or responsibility of EBT. - **Price per person will be applied according to the number of participants. For "solo travelers", couples or family groups, price per person may variates for private departures. - Children under 3 years old don't pay. - EBT never offers any refund if a cancellation happens within 5 days before tours departure date. - EBT always offers a 60% refund of the total amount if the client decides to cancel a tour 6 days or more, before tours departure date.
